Title Page - Issue 1
This gallery of masks foreshadows the appearance of ancestral spirits throughout the series. These masks are also woven into the story as the prize possessions of WitchDoctor's father, Gerard Carrington. In African culture the mask can symbolize the soul or even evoke the presence of the featured spirit. In Pan-African rituals the masks are used as part of a secret society of justice that serves the community through the guidance of the spiritual realm.

Many of the masks featured here are from Kenjji's own collection. You can see more of the actual artifacts and his other portraits in the MASKS OF PORO section (Home>Kenjji>Masks of Poro).
